One can assume that catchments with similar characteristics show a similar hydrological behaviour and thus can be mod-eled using similar model parameters. Therefore a regionalisation of the hydrological 5 model parameters on the basis of catchment characteristics is plausible. However, due to the non-uniqueness of the rainfall-runoff model parameters (equifinality), a workflow of regional parameter estimation by model calibration and a subsequent fit of a regional function is not appropriate. In this paper a different approach for the transfer of entire parameter sets from one catchment to another is discussed. Transferable parameter 10 sets are identified using regional statistics: means and variances of annual discharges estimated from catchment properties and annual climate statistics.

Large-scale hydrological modelling by using modified PUB recommendations: the India-HYPE case

The scientific initiative Prediction in Ungauged Basins (PUB) (2003–2012 by the IAHS) put considerable effort into improving the reliability of hydrological models to predict flow response in ungauged rivers. PUB’s collective experience advanced hydrologic science and defined guidelines to make predictions in catchments without observed runoff data. At present, there is a raised interest in app...

Simulation of Hydrological Balance in Eskandari Watershed Using SWAT Model and algorithms SUFI2

In order to manage watersheds, especially in mountainous areas that are not adequately station  hydrological phenomena simulation is important. In this study, the SWAT model used to simulate hydrologic basin Eskandari. Calibration and validation of models for the periods 2006-1992 and 2009-2015, respectively, using the algorithm SUFI2 in software SWAT CUP was done. To evaluate the simulation re...

Predicting the ungauged basin: model validation and realism assessment

The hydrological decade on Predictions in Ungauged Basins (PUB) led to many new insights in model development, calibration strategies, data acquisition and uncertainty analysis. Due to a limited amount of published studies on genuinely ungauged basins, model validation and realism assessment of model outcome has not been discussed to a great extent. With this paper we aim to contribute to the d...

River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin

Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...

Kinematic runoff and erosion model efficiency assessment for hydrological simulation of semi-arid watersheds

Hydrologic modeling of semi-arid watersheds is imperative for the development of appropriate water and soil conservation plans. In the current study, the efficiency of Kinematic Runoff and Erosion model-version 2 (K2) model was used to evaluate water discharge and sediment load simulation of Bar watershed, located in the north-eastern part of Iran. The K2 model relies on the kinematic wave appr...
